How to perform tayammum

Tayammum is purification with clean earth, allowed when water cannot be found or used.

1. What is tayammum?

   Purification with clean earth in place of wudu or ghusl, when there is no water or using it would cause harm, such as in illness.

2. Intention

   Intend tayammum in place of wudu or ghusl. The intention is obligatory.

3. Face

   Strike clean earth (or stone, sand and the like) with open hands, shake them off and wipe the whole face once.

4. Arms

   Strike the earth again; wipe the right arm with the left hand and the left arm with the right hand, including the elbows.

5. When is it broken?

   Whatever breaks wudu breaks tayammum. It also ends once water is found and can be used.
